I'm one of the first hit with new TAFE fees
I am part of the group of first students to pay these ridiculous fees. I would be the lucky one, only paying $6000 for a two-year Diploma at a well known TAFE.
Some in my class who have a higher degree are paying in excess of $19,000. I find this disgusting. Most of those paying more are also paying for rent/living expenses as they are not able to live at home.
People have already dropped out, and will continue to.
To make matters worse, we have only just found out at my TAFE they want to make a few Design TAFE subjects online - including ones which need a lot of face-to-face interaction such as technical drawing. So what we are paying for again becomes more of a rip off as we are getting less education or less quality of education because of the move to push the practical subjects online. This is absurd: we are paying for the practical experience.
Today I got home to find ANOTHER $178 fee for a bill that was apparently paid past the due date. It's ridiculous. They are expecting us to find something like $1448 in three weeks (between issuing date and payment date) and mine is "cheap".
I am looking into other university courses today, but because my ENTER wasn't high enough chances aren't looking good. A lot of courses would prefer you go through the TAFE system if you want to get into the university system, if scores weren't high enough. I feel trapped and I am sure a lot of other people do to.
Now, because of these TAFE fees, I cannot continue further education in TAFE in a different field, so I am thinking of dropping out to pursue a higher ed degree instead.
Keep fighting against these regulations - it is putting the future of education in serious trouble.

At the TAFE college where I work, we too taking our cues from local private training organizations who deliver certificates in record time i.e. reduced time for face to face delivery. Nominal hours are set down for the training package by the National Training Authority. In one scenario, we plan to deliver a certificate course in 20% less time than it took last year! If you are not receiving the hours that you are funded for, ask your training organization why not and how they plan to compensate for it. If the answer is unsatisfactory, perhaps a chat to your local political candidates would be appropriate.

I am in y8 and as a student I know that Tafe is needed and should be funded. It is important because many young people learn in different ways and have the right to have a bright future, tafe is also a place where people find there right to study instead of wasting there life on something else. When you really think about it. many australian youth need tafe as it is the only study pathway which lead them into a University. TAFE is a very important thing to many students in my secondary school have as a study pathway, and I cant wait to see good results in this campaign.
